Barrowford manufacturer takes on further staff thanks to free support

08.05.13

A manufacturer in Barrowford is rapidly taking on more staff after a business support grant helped them acquire a new machine.

Standel Dawman purchased a new lathe earlier this year, enabling them to make a greater number of bespoke components for customers.

Since installing the new equipment, the company has taken on an additional 6 staff and is already looking to expand further. Most of the new jobs have been undertaken by young workers, who will be provided with education and training to help them become skilled machine operatives.

The equipment was purchased with partial grant funding from Regenerate Pennine Lancashire, under the Accelerating Business Growth programme. The programme is supported by the Regional Growth Fund.

Philip Kyle, Managing Director at Standel Dawman said:

“Regenerate have been invaluable in helping us to secure funding to increase our output, which has helped us bring our number of staff up to 30. With the new machine almost at full capacity already, we hope to be in contact again in future to discuss further growth and job creation.”

David Wright, Policy and Performance Manager at Regenerate, said:

“The company applied for the grant to remove a bottleneck in production. As a result their output has increased, which not only helps their own business but also other local manufacturers that they supply”.

Joe Cooney, Pendle Council Leader and Governing Body member of Regenerate, said:

“We are keen to help Pendle businesses access the support services they need to achieve their growth aspirations. Standel Dawman offer a specialised service to companies world-wide and through the opportunity unlocked by Accelerating Business Growth funding, they’ll create new high skilled jobs that will benefit the local economy.”
