04.06.13

Blackburn with Darwen Council awarded grants totalling more than £250,000 to help businesses grow and create jobs, with the help of Regenerate Pennine Lancashire.

A total of 27 companies have been helped as part of the Council’s Assistance for Industry programme which is part of its Your Call Open for Business campaign which supports businesses, growth and job creation.

A total of 83 jobs have been created directly as a result of the grants during the last financial year.

Private sector investment in the borough has also totalled nearly £1million.

Assistance to Industry grants are delivered on behalf of the Council by economic development company, Regenerate.

They are awarded to companies to help them expand and are related in part to the number of jobs being created.

The Council increased the amount of money in the Assistance for Industry grant pot for the current financial year, which means even more businesses will benefit.

Councillor Kate Hollern, leader of Blackburn with Darwen Council said: “The Assistance for Industry grants are aimed at supporting businesses in the borough who are growing and need a little support.

“By making sound investments in local companies with huge potential, we can assist them in creating new jobs for our residents.”
