Lancashire Local Heritage Lists Project
Lancashire is one of 22 areas to have benefitted from a share of £1.5 million of Government funding to develop or improve local heritage lists. Like many regions across the country, Lancashire has a varied coverage of Local Lists, with some Local Authority areas already having established lists and showing a strong interest in reviewing and developing them, while other areas currently have no list in place.
Working in partnership, we are engaging with local communities, groups, and organisations throughout Lancashire to help promote and improve the recognition and protection given to locally important buildings. Whether it be a building, monument, site, place, area or landscape, Lancashire boasts a rich collection of local heritage assets. While non-designated (not listed as Grade II, for example), these assets carry significant value for local communities. Due to their heritage interest, they help promote local distinctiveness and inform future development.
These assets represent an eclectic mix of locations from both past and present — places of work, places to visit, places to enjoy leisure time, and importantly, places where people live.
Growth Lancashire is pleased to be co-ordinating this work in collaboration with its Local Authority partners, heritage organisations, and communities across the county. As an established vehicle for partnership working and a provider of heritage services to several Local Authorities, we already support and deliver a wide range of heritage-related activities across Lancashire.
The project will be completed in 2022/23.
