Students hit the right pitch at business boot camp

21.11.12

Enterprising students from Blackburn University were put through their paces at a taster “business boot camp” as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week 2012 (GEW).

A group of around 80 attended a free session on Friday, November 16th which was held by Regenerate Pennine Lancashire and one of its high growth business partners, Winning Pitch, to promote enterprise.

The students were given some top tips from experienced business coaches on how to develop their enterprising skills before being put to the test – they had to deliver an exciting and nerve wracking “60 second” pitch for their own business idea to their fellow students. The pitches have been filmed and a £100 of shopping vouchers will be awarded to the best one. Help us choose a winner – vote for your favourite here.

GEW puts the spotlight on enterprise and the opportunities for people across the world that comes from starting and growing a business.

Regenerate’s free high growth business programme Pennine LEAP is aimed at residents within Pennine Lancashire looking to start or grow a new business with potential to grow and create jobs.

And Blackburn College has shown that enterprise is already high on its agenda as it has been chosen as a pilot for the Coffeemat Challenge. Funded by UnLtd, the competition encourages students to come up with their own ideas for social enterprises.

Regenerate’s Managing Director, Steve Hoyle said: “This year, we decided we wanted to work with young people to promote GEW as the students are the business men and women of the future. It was great to see that so many had already demonstrated their enterprising skills and Pennine LEAP is aimed at people who want to start their own business so we hope to hear from many of them once they have graduated.”
