Lancashire Enterprise Champion Receives Queen’s Award

Steve Hoyle, Managing Director of the economic development company Regenerate Pennine Lancashire, attended a reception at Buckingham Palace this week for recipients of the Queen’s Award for Enterprise Promotion. Steve was presented with his award by Business and Industry Secretary, Vince Cable.

Working within local and regional government, Steve’s career has focussed on economic development and regeneration. He has promoted enterprise as a means to regenerate the area throughout his 35 year career.

Steve currently leads Regenerate Pennine Lancashire, which has attracted over £20m of funding from UK Government and EU programmes in recent years to help businesses start up or grow inLancashire.

Steve said:

“Throughout my career, I have always tried to make a positive difference to the area’s economy and improve work and life opportunities for the people living here. It was an honour to be invited to Buckingham Palace to recognise this and to meet the Queen – it’s something I will cherish for many years.”

“Regenerate is very active in promoting enterprise. For example, this Friday our Pennine LEAP business start-up team are visiting Blackburn College’s University Campus to run a workshop for students on how to set up a successful business.”

When Steve was first nominated Dennis Mendoros, Chief Executive of aerospace firm Euravia, and Chair of Regenerate said:

“Steve is well respected, at all levels, across the business community in Pennine Lancashire as someone who can bridge the gap between the public and private sector. I am confident that even in these uncertain times, under Steve’s stewardship, businesses will continue to receive the support they need to start, innovate and grow; to deliver a lasting change to the enterprise culture of the area.”

Mike Damms, Chief Executive, East Lancashire Chamber of Commerce and Industry added:

“I have known Steve for many years and have shared a similar passion for enterprise. He not only feels that this could be a better place, he has done something about it. As a private sector organisation we have a high level of regard for him. He has an especial talent in understanding the conditions that will allow businesses and the individual to flourish”
