Blackburn student makes perfect pitch

09.12.13

A student from Blackburn College who is studying at the University Centre has won a £100 voucher for her business pitching skills.

Kerry Hughes was one of over 80 students who attended a free business bootcamp which was held at the college campus and organised by Regenerate and Winning Pitch on November 22nd, as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week.

The students received top tips from experienced business coaches, before being asked to consider how a new or existing product could be verbally sold to a top business – in a similar style to the pitches in the BBC’s ‘Dragon’s Den’.

Volunteers were then given an opportunity to pitch their ideas to a panel of judges for a chance to win the prize.

Kerry’s presentation focussed on an existing product, the steamless mirror, being sold through an invented company, ‘Reflections UK’.

The judges commended Kerry’s confidence in presenting the product, her selling skills and her ability to concisely summarise the product’s unique qualities.

Kerry said, “I study the Business with Human Resource Managment degree at the College. I would like work in HR in future, but attended the session to find out more about how a business works. I felt the event helped me develop my professional skills.”
