Sweet smell of success for Leyland manufacturer

30.08.13

A Leyland manufacturing company has taken on more staff after receiving a government grant to create a new filling facility.

Expac Ltd manufactures toiletry and personal care products, such as shower gels, body lotions and talcum power. They spotted an opportunity to grow through production of ethanol based products, such as aftershave, room sprays and fine fragrances.

As ethanol is alcohol based and flammable, they required a hi-tech blending and filling hall with specialist machinery to keep staff safe and meet customs guidelines.

Expac received funding for the filling hall through Regenerate Pennine Lancashire, an economic development company who are providing £16.5m of grants to Lancashire businesses through the Government’s Regional Growth Fund.

Expac also acquired equipment for the facility previously used by traditional perfume manufacturers, to help them create bespoke fragrances and scents that would appeal to trendy boutique chains.

The new facility will enable the company to grow by 20% per annum and open up international export markets.

Mark Langtree, Managing Director of Expac, said:

“By creating this facility, we have already gained two new clients and employed several new members of staff. Without a doubt the assistance from Regenerate helps secure our company’s future. It is very reassuring to receive funding from local investment, keeping Lancashire manufacturing alive.”
