Thinking of starting a Social Enterprise? Take the leap now!

04.10.12

Now is the time to start a social enterprise and turn an idea into a real sustainable business, says the Social Enterprise Lancashire Network (SELNET).

Liz Tapner, Chief Executive at SELNET urged people to take advantage of the free coaching support that is available as part of a new business start-up programme.

Pennine LEAP, the programme is being delivered by Regenerate Pennine Lancashire’s and a network of local enterprise partners.

Financially supported by the European Regional Development Fund, the programme provides a start-up bootcamp, one-to-one intensive coaching with HR indemnified professionals, social enterprise coaching and international trade support to new businesses across Blackburn, Darwen, Hyndburn, Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale.

The programme also provides finance support and the benefit of an experienced business mentor for up to two years.

Liz Tapner said: “If there is a gap in services in your area, if you recognise an opportunity and if you have the motivation to do something to benefit the community, then now is the time to come forward.”

“The support is there to help you realise your dream. We have social enterprise experts to help you with business planning, finance, mentoring, marketing, etc. We will hold your hand the whole way.”

“As well as creating a sustainable business, you could create jobs in your local community. There are lots of people in the same situation and they are already making a huge difference to the lives of people in their communities.”

“The term ‘community’ does not just refer to an area. A community could be people living with mental health issues or disabilities who feel restricted, or people with a passion for the environment. I can help you turn a community into a business.”

“Selnet brings you into a whole network of like-minded people. Just give it a go. You have nothing to lose and so much to gain. We are a really friendly group and you will not be on your own. There is no pressure, just a commitment to giving it a go. Come along and explore the possibilities.”
